Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

And I repeat my advice from above - consider an external USB soundcard - these are the ones which we know work well with Audacity (we know because we use 'em :) ): http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477

Hi Steve, I thought you would like to know that the volume slider works fine on Audacity 1.3.9, whereas it springs towards the maximum volume on Aud.1.3.10. Many thanks, Roy Windmill

Roy,

yup similar behaviour on my XP systems with my Edirol external soundcard with 1.3.10 and 1.3.11 (in 1.3.11 both sliders are ganged together - and the output slider has no impact on the output volume).

The developers are aware of this as I raised bug reports for 1.3.10 & 11

BTW don't use 1.3.10 - it has a bug on Esport multiple whereby it rounds up to the next 5-second boundary.
