Audacity Hijacking my microphone.

Post by Salsassin » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:34 pm

I love using Audacity to record computer sound output, but I find that each time I use it, I have to reboot because my microphone has been hijacked for other applications, such as Skype. After using Audacity, my microphone won't work.

Look in "Help menu > About Audacity". If it is not 1.3.11 then it is worth updating.

I'm very surprised by this problem, it's usually the other way round with Skype hijacking the sound system.
If you look near the time/date on your desktop you will hopefully see a loudspeaker icon. This is the user interface for controlling your sound card. Double click (or right click) to open it and look for the "Record" settings section. To record sounds playing on your computer, set the recording source to "Stereo Mix". To use Skype, set it to "Mic".

If you're wanting help in getting this working you'll need to be more specific, for example which version of Windows, what's this "u controller", what options do you have in the Windows Control Panel, which options are set, which options are available in the Audacity Device Preferences, which options are set, how is the microphone attached to the computer, andy other information that may be helpful or relevant.
