Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Audacity won't record anything?

Post by TheSkiesDie » Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:43 am

Ok, My hard drive recently was destroyed so I had to switch to a different computer.
I downloaded Audacity on the official site, and when I went to record, the recording bar (thats red) just stays at the beginning kind of glitching and blinking.
I used Audacity almost everyday on my Old computer and never had any problems.
I un-installed and re-installed it, and still nothing.
So I tried about 4 different versions from old to new and all did the same thing.
Anyone have a clue whats wrong?

By source do you mean what am I recording?
I used to use "Stereomix" but the newer versions don't have that option.
How connected to the computer? I don't understand that question honestly.
I have a windows XP, Desktop.

Yes that is what I meant - I assume that you are trying to record from the internet or suchlike. And yes manufacturers do seem to be removing this option from computers - presumably in an attempt to prevent piracy. There is an article in the Wiki that may help you: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recor ... e_computer
and this thread in the Wiki: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 94&p=17870

As you did not say what you were recording from, it could have been an external turntable, a cassette deck or a radio - in which case you would have had some wires and olugs connecting this to yout PC - as you are trying to record what is playing on the PC, then this does not apply (so I see why my question confused you :) )

If all else fails you should be able to work around this by purchasing one of the external USB soundcards which we know work well with Audacity. See this sticky thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477
