Only recording on left channel + recording volume too low

I'm running 1.3.9 on a Windows 7, 64-bit system. My problem is two fold. First, it seems only to be recording on the left channel. The attached screenshot shows the problems. It also shows that I've set the recording volume to max. Old Radeon X700
Before I posted here, I tried to find a solution. I've already made sure to check my recording devices were correct. I actually tried every combination, including trying to use disabled/disconnected devices. I've also made sure system recording volumes were set to max.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm going crazy trying to figure this one out.

If you look in the Windows Control Panel there should be a setting for recording mono or stereo. This setting overrides Audacity's settings.
If you are recording from a microphone there is usually a setting in the sound card settings in Windows Control Panel for adding a 20dB boost to the microphone signal.
If you are recording from a microphone, most computer microphone connectors are mono, so even if you are using a stereo microphone the computer will probably only record from one of the mics (mono).
If you are recording "Stereo Mix", the recording level is also affected by the playback volume - it is recording the playback stream, and if that is at a low level, then the recording will also be low level.

Steve,
Your post made me go back and check my devices. I thought I was recording off the sound card, but it turned out it was the microphone. No wonder there was no volume! I went back and tried one of the disabled devices and - bingo - all was well. Thanks for your help!
