Sound Levels

I recently bought a Tevion USB deck with Audacity to put my LPs onto disc. I run XP and find that I cannot reduce the sound levels when recording. The meters are in the red causing distortion on playback. I have gone to Volume Control and the USBCodec control is not active. Is there anyway round this problem, other than getting Vista. The meters worked perfectly when I used my sons Laptop with Vista. He lives 8 mile away so not available. No reply from Tevion yet. Any help will be much appreciated from this struggling 80 year old.

when you plug in a USB deck then the USB device takes complete control over the sound input and sound level. You can't choose any alternative input from the drop-down box and you can't adjust the input (mic) slider - well not until you unplug the USB TT from your PC.

This normally isn't a problem as the USB deck should control the level ok without clipping.

There may be a control that you can use however if you are getting an oversaturated signal - if you are lucky your TT may have a gain control which will enable you to control the signal level before it reaches the ADC and USB services of your TT. Some USB TTs have gain controls and others don’t.

If you do not have such a control you are out of luck – I hope you have a receipt and a good returns policy from the retailer you purchased from

Thanks for the reply though it does look as though I have bought a PUP. I will go back to the shop and see what they say about returning it.
