headphones are connected but still comes out of speakers?
my headphones are in but everything i record still comes out of the speakers

You may have fried the headphone connection, or maybe you didn't get the plug in far enough. Unplug it and try it again several times firmly.
Some computers switch between speakers and headphones in software, but a lot of them use mechanical contacts in the socket to do the work. When those break, they're seriously broken.

it's a new computer, it's gotta be something to do with the program or some sort of settings within

Laptop PCs usually switch off the internal speakers when you plug in headphones. Desktop speakers usually do not.
