No Stereo -- One Channel Only
I was given a preamp as a gift and downloaded Audactiy 1.3 (Beta) to record some LPs to MP3s. Everyting works fine except I can't get it to record both channels. Under preferences the input device (labeled as Microphone USB -3) does not give 2 channels as an option under the channels pulldown menu.
Does this mean my preamp device is not putting out 2 channels? (The device is a Artcessories USB Phone Plus. Or should I check the setings on my sound card. Please note I have no idea the relationship between the soundcard and recording, and I am not having any playback issues. If it is a soundcard issue, please walk me through it because I don't even know how to find my soundcard in Vista.
Thanks.

Re: No Stereo -- One Channel Only
Go to Edit > Preferences and click on Devices in the list on the left - the bottom box on the right is labelled Recording - there is a dropdown in there labelled Channels - set this to 2 (stereo).
I have an ARTcessories DJPreII pre-amp (same as yours - but yours has a USB soundcard onboard too - I run mine through a separate USB soundcard). and this definitely delivers 2-channel stereo.

Thanks, WC, but what I'm saying is the pulldown menu doesn't give me the option of 2 channels. The only thing in there is 1 channel. Any other thoughts? Thanks again.

Re: No Stereo -- One Channel Only
I've just had a look at the online manual for your device: http://www.artproaudio.com/downloads/ma ... plusv2.pdf
Have you followed the advice in Step 4 ? hey talk about choosing "USB Audio Codec" - whereas you say that you have "Microphone USB -3" as the input ddevice - this doesn't sound right. You might expect a microphone input to be mono - many mics are mono only.

Re: No Stereo -- One Channel Only
Timely question - first time posting so I hope this similar observation gets across:
I just got the same USB Phonpplus preamp and using Audacity Beta 1.3. I discovered that audacity appears to be recording mono on both tracks even if I chose 'stereo'. The left channel from phono is not recording; two tracks are recorded/created from the right channel and labelled 'stereo'.
seem similar?

Re: No Stereo -- One Channel Only
In Vista I believe there is an option in the Windows Control Panel to set recording to mono/stereo.

Re: No Stereo -- One Channel Only
I'm using Win 7. I'll see if there's a similar function. Thanks for quick reply.
Re: No Stereo -- One Channel Only
I adjusted Win7 mic successfully to record in stereo, but now the input levels for decent recording are very low - very little room to adjust. Input levels are .05 out of 1.0. Any higher and they distort. I'll assume that the issue is internal to Win 7 and/or mic adjustments. any ideas?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: No Stereo -- One Channel Only
The only thing I see in the Vista Control Panel is under "Sounds," the "Recording Tab." I click on the recorder that I am using and it claims to be a "2 channel" device. Is there some other place I can toggle recording to "stereo" on the control panel? Thanks.
