I run Audacity on two laptops, each running Windows XP, sp3. On each machine, version 1.2.6 gives me control of the microphone volume slider ... and version 1.3.10 BETA deactivates the slider. I recognize that it's possible for the system to refuse to relinquish control of the microphone input volume but I didn't think the upgrade from 1.2.6 to 1.3.10 should cause it to be lost on the same machine.
Interested in your insight.

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Microphone Volume slider deactivated in 1.3.10
Oh yes it could - I get different behaviour between 1.2 and 1.3 on both my PCs - and indeed both my PCs are now running 1.3.9 and they behave differently from each other. It all depends on the combination of O/S and soundcard drivers and the soundcard itself.
