I have a podcast that I'm syncing with a video.
I split the track and use Timeshift to slide the clips along till they are in sync with the video they reference.
Than I want to export this as a new audio track.
But I found that if I just select the track, it skips the blank sections between clips, so it's out of sync.
E.g., I had offset the beginning by 37 seconds, but the export audio starts immediately.
I had expected that empty = silence when exporting, but not so.
I can get what I want by creating a silent track of the same length and selecting both and exporting, which mixes them.
Is there a more direct way to convert "empty" to "silent"?
Convert space between clips to silence?

Re: Convert space between clips to silence?
I think this is a known bug that the developers may have fixed for 1.3.11
1.3.11 is alpha software but is probably the best current release. You can get it from the nightly builds: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... tly_Builds
Or just carry on using your workaround until 2.0 gets released later this year.

Re: Convert space between clips to silence?
In Audacity 1.3.11 empty space between audio clips = silence, but any silence before the first audio clip is discarded.
I believe that this is intentional (it is consistent with previous versions of Audacity) as it allows people that are using multi-track recording projects to leave some "run in" space before the audio begins, without having to trim the blank space from each track prior to export.
For your application it is a little inconvenient but is easily resolved by using "Mix and Render" from the Tracks menu prior to Export. This has the added advantage that if you have used the track volume or pan sliders, or have used the Envelope tool, these effects are rendered so you can examine the result (and check that there is no clipping distortion) before exporting.
