Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Recording songs from myspace

Post by gEOFF » Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:39 am

I'm trying to record songs from myspace and I have looked through the tutorials and threads and cannot find an answer.
Everyone is advising to click "Stereo Mix" in the drop down menu, but unfortunately, that's not there for me, all I have is "Master".

Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem?

What you get in the Mixer dropdown is entirely dependent on your soundcard and its associated driver software. And note that many PC manufacturers appear to be removing the ability to record what is playing on the computer (presumably to deter piracy).

You can work around this by buying an external USB soundacrd and loping back its outputs to its inputs and ensuring that Windows and Audacity target both the input and output sound services to the external card. See this sticky thraed for USB soundcards that we know play well with Audacity: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477

Also have a look at this page from the Wiki: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... e_computer
