Hey,
I'm using a Dell laptop with a 64bit version of Vista. I just got this beta version of Audacity as the old stable version crashed often with 64bit Vista. Everything works fine, except for one thing.
I've been trying to record from the line out of my guitar's amp. Obviously, the amp is connected to my laptop's line in. When I look at recording devices in the control panel, the line in device shows up as working, and if I strum a chord then the little bar shows that there is a signal coming through.
However, if I'm using Audacity and in the preferences I choose line in as the recording source, Audacity still records what's coming through the laptop's webcam's microphone array. If I disable the microphone array and try to record from line in, then Audacity just records silence.
So basically, it doesn't matter what I do, Audacity records from the microphone array when I'm trying to record from the external microphone/line in. I should note that the stereo mix records as it should when selected, so this is only happening with line in.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
EDIT: Also, I've disabled all enhancements for all devices as they only seem to screw things up so they can't be the problem.

Re: Audacity Always Records Through Mic Array, Not Line In
Do you have an option in Audacity Preferences (Edit menu > Preferences > Devices) to set the recording and playback devices to "Microsoft Sound Mapper"?
If "Line-in" is selected in the Windows Control Panel as the default recording device, then Microsoft Sound Mapper should route Audacity through to the Line-in.

Ah yes it is an option, I was sondering what exactly it was for.
I will try using that now, thanks.
