Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

OK, let's back up a bit.

What version of Audacity, what computer and operating system?

What name were you trying to use the save the project (or were you trying to export)?

Lots of characters are illegal in Audacity filenames.

There's a list of legal ones. Upper and lower case letters, numbers, underscore and dash. That's it. I have to push files all over the world with sometimes odd tools, so I don't use spaces, either.

I have been getting this error message occasionally (on 1.3.9) where the filename is entirely "legal" characters. It seems to clear itself up the next time I try and save - and is one of those "incidents" which is not reproducible to order - so hard to identify as a bug or not.

I will try to take better notes of what happened and the circumstances next time.

I want to stress yet again that saving or exporting with other than A-Z, numbers, underscore and dash characters should NOT be a problem in current Beta if you are keeping these projects/files to yourself or only sending them to people on the same operating system as yourself. Depending on whether you are doing Save, Export or Export Multiple, you will either be warned of any characters you enter that are illegal for your system, or Audacity will refuse to export.

Internet, I suspect the problem was nothing to do with file names. It could have been a temporary writing problem because the system was busy, or anything... If it happens again, please let us know and give us as much detail about the circumstances, and details of the tracks in the project. Also see this thread:
http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 655#p66655

I'm moving this thread to the Windows Beta Forum. Please post in the correct forum for your operating system and version of Audacity.

Thanks

Gale
