I've bee extraordinarily frustrated byt my inability to record.
I've been very pleased with Audacity since I downloaded it about six weeks ago but in the last week has suddenly stopped being able to record.
I've tried all the regular stop-gag measures such as re-installation, restore, deleting similar programs such as Repear, attempting to apply the suggestions posted here, all to no avail
and am about ready to give up.
Perhaps I must have screwed the default settings in the process or something.
The only clue to resolving this was briefly mentioned in one the suggestions that a new USB port use/plug might somehow confuse the program.
The program's failure does seems to coincide with the new desktop speakers I plugged in about the same time it stopped working and might just be the route to follow but have been unable to undo the effects, which I am otherwise clueless as how to resolve this.
Any assistance or guidance on thuis matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.

Re: Won't record
So you're recording from a USB device?
You've just added USB speakers?
and now you can't record?
... if that's the case, try unplugging your speakers - reboot - and try again.
... if that's not the case, you'll need to say what your setup is and exactly what the problem is, rather than leaving everyone guessing. ("not working" is not a fault, it's a cry of desperation).

Re: Won't record USB
I really appreciate your reply as neither myself, any online help sites nor colleagues have been able to resolve this issue. I had no problem recording from any desktop, online source but primarily ITunes until it suddenly stopped
being able to record. I can't specifically trace it to having plugged in new desktop speakers but I did purchase
new speakers about the same time.
I tried several other sound recorders, such as Reaper after uninstalling Audacity (which I've since re-installed) and they all have the exact same problem of not being able to record.
I've made sure to configure the input (microphone)/output (Realtek) as advised in the earlier posts but still have
had no success. I even brought it to my local computer guy who couldn't track the problem down and unless you
have the genius solution to this inexplicable problem, the only thing left would be a destructive recovery.
Anything you have to offer to resolving this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.
