Recording from an amplifier

Post by Claudia » Sun Dec 13, 2009 4:08 pm

We are trying to record a family favorite cassette tape to the computer. We know the RCA line out from the AMPLIFIER is sending a signal because we can hear it on a separate laptop. We are pluggin into the line-in (blue) part of the soundcard on the desktop. We have set the devices to line-in and stero. But when we start a recording and then press playback, there is no sound coming from the recording. We have tried updating drivers, exporting the file and playing it on the computer, and other settings but do not have any sound at all. Our conclusion is that something is happening to the signal from the cassette deck to the amplifier adn then to the computer that audacity is unable to pick up. Unfortunately, there is no direct output from the casetter player, it all feeds into the amplifier with ribbons. Is there a setting we need to set on Audacity that will enable the pick up? Thanks for your help. (We are running Windows Vista)

It's probably a sound card setting rather than an Audacity setting that needs adjusting. Have a look here and see if this helps: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ng_devices
