Audacity Files
I want to create 10 or more song files (projects) that will, when all finished, be burnt to a CD to create an album. How do I save each of these projects so that they will be in the same area on the computer. Does Audacity automatically save all files to a special place or can I tell Audacity where to save all the files for this album and do I have to create sub-folders for each project? If I want to create several albums this way can all of the Audacity files be stored on the computer?

Re: Audacity Files
First, you can't burn projects to a CD - you need to export to WAV or AIF first. http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... y_Projects
Second, you don't need to have a separate project for each song. Have a look at this:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... iscs_to_CD
or this:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ate_tracks.
Also be aware that there is a bug in 1.3.10 that causes Export Multiple to export files that are a bit too long. If you try the above techniques with 1.3.10 you should get the latest nightly build http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... tly_Builds

Hmm no way I just joined the forum because this sounds like exactly what's happening to me.
Running Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3.10b on Windows XP.

To help I will need more information. When you installed LAME and FFMPEG exactly where were they install (full path)?tiendunn732 wrote:hi guys.... thr is a problem when i am using Audacity 1.3.9.

When you open the Audacity Preferences Libraries panel what does it say (with the Preferences dialog having focus, press the alt key and the print screen key at the same time -- this will copy an image of the dialog to the clipboard; open Paint or your favorite paint program and paste the clipboard; save the resulting small image as a PNG file; when you reply to this thread look just below the text entry area and click on "Upload attachment" -- make it an in-line attachment).
On the Libraries panel, when you click one of the "Locate" buttons, what happens -- be very specific?

Re: Audacity Files
See my previous reply to tiendunn732 but also be aware that Audacity 1.2.6 uses the Windows registry to store some information but 1.3.10 does not -- it uses a configuration file. Unfortunately 1.3.10 can sometimes pick up inappropriate information from the registry which was written by 1.2.6. I cannot really give you a definitive recommendation for Windows XP but if 1.2.6 does everything you require perfectly you might hold off using 1.3.x at least until this final round of beta testing is over. If you do decide to switch to 1.3.10 make sure you use the most recent alpha version or a beta version when available; also be aware that you might have a collision between the Window's registry entries from 1.2.6 -- again see my previous reply.illused wrote:Hmm no way I just joined the forum because this sounds like exactly what's happening to me.

Re: Audacity Files
My son-in-law downloaded Audacity (don't know what version, tho) for me couple of weeks ago and have been performing in what I assume is a normal fashion...but now am having a big problem, one that began today after having Cyberdefender work on my PC for a third time because of certain seemingly unrelated issues, which prompted me to join your site: after having a second "technician" looking for missing files of live performances recorded on a Sony D-50 portable digital unit (linear PCM, which turns into WAVE files once the data is transferred to a PC), ultimately located and put back into my "documents"...was no longer able to playback downloaded tracks either via Audacity or Windows Media Player, which had been working fine untill this unsavory event; a warning window indicates Wave files are now AUF-formatted (Edgar wrote:If you do decide to switch to 1.3.10 make sure you use the most recent alpha version or a beta version when available; also be aware that you might have a collision between the Window's registry entries from 1.2.6 -- again see my previous reply.
Anyway, watching the third tech remotely work on my PC on my monitor while attempting to resolve the problem, saw that at one point he accessed your website, apperently looking for clues, etc., something I remembered a while ago...thus my posting. Am hoping to obtain help from someone here because those music tracks are an essential tool since the contained repertoire is my personal reference since am the drummer for the recorded church choirs' soundtracks; those live performances were captured by me with the D-50 unit.
By the way...my PC is a new (well, is couple of months old anyway) Dell model Studio XPS with Microsoft's Vista OS...

Like what? If you have files suddenly vanish and unexplained filename changes, you may have people using your machine other than you -- virus, trojan, etc.
Microsoft offers a very nice virus checker and I used that to check up on my PCs when I was still using them.

Re: Audacity Files
I had them work on my PC because some icons were missing from the desktop page and it happened overnight--forgot to shut it off the night before. Am not that savvy about computers so often need help when issues arise. I am the sole user of my computer.kozikowski wrote:<<<Cyberdefender work on my PC for a third time because of certain seemingly unrelated issues>>>

Something the first tech did to it had to mess things up...causing me to call them a second time, but things got even worse as not only had my music files changed to an unknown format but lost my e-mail address books and all previous e-mails--some of which still had my little granddaughter's photos my daughter sent me recently--as well.
Anyway, thanks for the link; am going to use it. Boy, Cyberdefender will hear from me again!...

What I meant by that is somebody is sneaking in your internet connection and using your machine without you knowing. Malicious computer break-ins used to be somebody trying to get attention by flashing messages on your screen, metaphorically kicking over the lamp, spilling stuff on the rug, deleting files and generally making a pest of themselves. The latest version of that is somebody who breaks in without you knowing and using your computer to do other jobs -- like helping to break into other people's computers.
That's scary because if somebody discovers the second break-in, they come looking for you.
This isn't your mum's internet any more.
Anyway, we'll help where we can, but as we are fond of saying, Audacity is a complete slave to the computer running it. If your computer is insane......
