ffmpeg.exe has stopped working

hi,
Be patient. this is my first.
I have windows 7 ultimate and I am using audacity 1.3.9. Every time i try to export to either wav or mp3, I get "ffmpeg.exe has stopped working".Sometimes I
will get about 10-20 seconds of a recording. Every thing else seems to work, but I am very much a novice. I have tried googling and the forum. Please help.
