Recording is 2x louder than the actual source.

Whenever I record whatever's coming out of my speaker, Audacity records at around twice the volume of the original source. It didn't do this when I first installed it. I tried the stable release as well, and it does the same thing.

It's not an Audacity problem. If you leave "Mix-Out" and other things selected in Windows Control Panels at once, Audacity will record each show twice, one on top of the other.

Thanks. I listen to stuff from my speakers, but I was always recording with "stereo mix." For some reason, I had to put the levels of Stereo Mix down to 20 out of a possible 100, and it matches the normal volume of my speakers/headphones. Dunno how that ever got changed to begin with, but thanks anyway.

A general tip:
You should only use "Stereo Mix" if you are recording sounds that are playing on your computer.
If you are recording from a microphone or from a line input you will get better sound quality by setting the recording input directly to the input that you are using.
