Hi,
I'm using XP SP2 and Audacity 1.3.9 with Creative Audigy Platinum sound card. I can import audio files and I can record from line-in no problem. However, I cannot record direct from the sound card. I have played WAV files in my other sound programs and Windows Media Player, but when recording it seems there is some sort of loop-back as the recording track in Audacity shows even a simple one ring bell to ring and ring building up to a crescendo.
I only have the line out connected to speakers, all options but Wave are muted in the Play Control and only WAVE is selected in the Recording Control.
Can anyone suggest a solution, please?
Kind regards, Paul

that's called "feedback".
Go to Edit > Preferences > Recording and uncheck the box that says Software Playthrough ....

WC,
Thanks, very succint response! Much appreciated.
It's surprising how easy it is to overlook the basics when panick takes over.http://forum.audacityteam.org/images/ic ... edface.gif
All is calm again.
