Export 8 bit resolution WAV files.

I have a very specific need to export WAV files in 8 bit resolution and 22kHz sample rate which was possible with the stable version of Audacity. I cannot find the option to do so in the Beta version.
Has this ability been deliberately dropped from the feature set of future versions?
Can anyone explain how select this export format or suggest a work around, please?
Kind regards, Paul

Set the Project rate to 22kHz (do you mean 22050 ?) in the Project Rate box (lower left corner of main Audacity window).
File > Export > Other Uncompressed Files > Options > WAV Microsoft > Encoding > Unsigned 8 bit PCM.

Thanks for the quick response.
Yes, I did mean 22050, just being lazy!
Thanks for the correct path to the 8 bit save, I've just started to work with the beta version and spent quite a lot of time trying to find this.
I'll go and donate something to Children in Need to celebrate! (TV charity telethon running at the moment on the BBC in the UK).
I'm sure to be back soon - the beta is so much better than 1.2.
Kind regards, Paul

OK, so I exported the selection using the 8 bit option provided. The resultant WAV file played fine through Windows Media Player, but would not load into the programme I wanted to use (Zimo Sound Programmer). Error message from that programme said 'Invalid Wave-Header'. I don't know what that means exactly.
I checked the file properties and compared with those of files known to load correctly. I could see no difference apart from file name and size. I repeated the exporting several times to remove any doubt that I was following the instructions correctly. Still the same result.
In desperation, I opened the saved WAV file into 1.2.6 and exported again. This file was opened by ZSP with no problem.
OK I have a workaround, but as 1.2.6 will not read projects saved from the beta, and only one version can be running at a time, it means opening and closing applications to re-export what should have been done correctly from the Beta.
What is the difference between WAV file headers saved in 1.3.9 and 1.2.6? Was this difference planned? Can this be changed or a different option be added so that the files are exported with the correct Wave Header, please?

I'm not certain about this as I've seen very little documentation about it, but I believe the situation is there is now an updated specification of the WAV format that overcomes several restrictions of the original specification. As there are an increasing number of programs that use/require the later version, Audacity has updated to the later standard. Unfortunately this leaves a few old programs out in the cold.
One of the main differences is support of (some) metadata. (Which has been a much requested feature).
It may be the metadata that your program does not like.
Before exporting, open the Metadata editor (file menu) and delete all metadata.

Thanks stevethefiddle
Your suggestion worked a treat! Just leaving the 'Value' fields blank was enough. I did not have to remove the 'Tag' column entries (although I did try this first!)
Pity really, as I liked the feature for saving Metadata, I can see why it was requested.
Still, it's a small price to pay, and I'm very appreciative of your advice.
Kind regards,
Paul
