Audacity Forum

Hello all -
I'm using audacity 1.3.9 on an HP laptop (Elitebook) running Windows XP. I record from a Mobile Pre pre-amp and an audio-technica mic.
The audio file (aup) while listening to it - will suddenly go into an Alvin and Chipmunks voice. I have to go in and use Change Speed to make it sound right.

This also happened on another computer I was using and was on 1.2.6....

Any thoughts?

Does the sound quality also go bad?
What sample rate are you using? (Edit menu > Preferences > Quality)

Hey - i'm using 44100 - the quality does not go bad at all... I just have to go in and change the speed... It happens for an unknown reason at unknown times. Thanks!

Try switching to a default sample rate of 48000 and see if your sound card is happier at that.
If it is, but you still want to Export at 44100 (for example if you are going to make an audio CD), then use the project rate box in the lower left corner of the main Audacity window to temporarily change the project sample rate to 44100 immediately before Exporting.
