Bass fade out. true mix
Ive tried so many ways and cant find a way to true mixing.
For example, I mixing 2 tracks, and need to slowly fade out the bass sound of one, and slowly fade in the bass of the second track. Like I do on a live mix.
Does anyone know how to do it?

I'd be calling this "special effects" rather than "true mix," but I don't do live club mixing, either.
Since Audacity doesn't do anything in real time, you'll need to set this up. You'll need four tracks; 1-Flat, 1-No Bass, 2-Flat, 2-No Bass. Slide them over each other so the timing comes our right (Flat and No Bass versions have to track each other) and use the Envelope Tool (two white arrows and bent blue line) to perform the cross fade between song 1 and song 2. You can put the fade anywhere you want and have as much bass as you want before, during, and after the fade from either track.
You might want to perform the effect live on the mixing desk because that probably won't take you all afternoon.
The movie special effects people run into this all the time. You can pay an effects actor to do a practical effect live in fifteen seconds, or you can pay a special effects company thousands of dollars over six weeks to do the same thing in the big computers.

Re: Bass fade out. true mix
Thanks for your help man !
I've tried wut u told me, in fact thats how I actually do it.
What Im exactly trying to do right now is to fade out bass of track 1. And fade in bass of track 2. But I am only able to "cut the bass off? instead of fade it out. So the mix turns out kinda crappy.
By the way I just realize Ive been posting in the wrong forum !! I have 1.3 beta version.

Bass fade out/in as on live mixing.

Re: Bass fade out. true mix
You mean that you want to fade out the bass frequencies on one track, or, you want to fade out the bass - as in one bass instrument, (such as a bass guitar or a bass synth line)?
This is probably a general "Audio Processing" or "Recording Techniques" question. Let's see how the conversation goes and we'll move it later.migueford wrote:By the way I just realize Ive been posting in the wrong forum !!

You can't do it "live", but you could use the Envelope Tool to control the fade out of one track and the fade in of the other.migueford wrote:Ive tried so many ways and cant find a way to true mixing.

Re: Bass fade out. true mix
I thought I posted an answer to this question....
The envelope tool will let you slowly fade between the song with normal bass and the song without bass. No switching. It will sound like you slowly turned the bass down, crossed, and then turned it back up. If you have all four tracks, you can manage the bass and the crossfade at the same time if you want.
It does take a second to get your head around what you're doing. It's nothing like what you do on the mix desk.
Fade from 1-normal to 1-no-bass, then fade both of those down and fade up 2-no-bass and then fade to 2-normal. I don't know any other way to do what you want in post production.

I posted twice because my first post was on the 1.2 version forum, I realized that after I got a reply on the other thread.
Sorry.
Sorry.

I tried that, but the envelop tool will fade in/out the volume of the track.. I just wanna fade out certain freqs. Or, maybe I am wrong and there is a way to do that with the envelop tool... is there??
