Two questions regarding quality of the audio

hello, I'm a newbie to both Audacity and this forum, so hi! :)

I've looked thru the forums and can't find any help on a "tinny" fix, so if any resident locals would like to point me in the right direction, I'd gladly save everyone the time of answering the same question again and again. If not, then ....

I've got an audio recording that sounds "tinny" and would like to clean it up. Also, it seems to have been recorded with high volume. Is there any way to take the edge off? I've used the "Compressor" and that simply made it quieter, but didn't take the 'barking' out of it on the louder ends.
Any help would be much appreciated :)

Tinny we can do every day and twice on Sunday. Digital overload is usually fatal. We're talking 95%. Once the show gets so loud that it exceeds the channel, it's pretty much permanently gone.

Do you have any way to post a sample of the crunchy, overloaded work? You need to send WAV. MP3 has its own damage.

hmm. don't know where to upload the audio to, and if you're right about the fatality of digital overload then I don't think I'll waste much time on it. But if you can give me a tip or two on anti tinning I'd be grateful !

Thanks Koz
