1.2.x worked on XP - 1.2.x & 1.3.x on Vista 64bit won't work

I had 1.2.x on my XP and it worked great. I could record anything that came across my sound card. Ever since I got my new PC with Vista 64bit, I can't get any version of Audacity to work. I've tried every configuration that I can think of. What am I doing wrong?

I wouldn't bother even trying with Audacity 1.2 - Vista had not been invented when that version came out - go for Audacity 1.3.9 (or later).

I'm using Vista 64x with 1.3.8 and it's doing allright. (1.3.9 is out? goody!)
