Use CDR and not CDRW.

The developers have addressed this issue and it should now be fixed in the latest code (November 5th).
I've tested it on Linux and it is now working correctly.

Is there a way, when recording or listening, to have the current location of the music remain at the center of the screen, allowing the time to scroll by, rather than traveling left-to-right, then jumping back to the left?

I have looked for this setting and can't find it.

I think the original date was May 2007!
I think the current target date is December 2009.

We've been saying "very soon" for a long time now, but the developers are now exclusively working on releasing the stable version and avoiding any sidetracks into new features.

I just quickly ran through the link you gave me, and, honestly, I can't see it. You obviously understood what I was talking about, when I clumsily asked my question.

(I think your description was very clear).

Because it is listed on the Feature Request page does not mean that it will be implemented any time soon, but it does mean that the developers are aware of it and know there is some interest in the feature. There will be no new features until Audacity 2.0 stable is released as that the currently the overriding priority.
