After using Audacity for a couple of years, I upgraded to Ver 1.3 and have used it for a couple of months without a problem. But I have not been able to play back the files. The cursor won't move. I tried it on a freshly recorded file, and then imported an mp3, and it just sits there when I hit "play".
I closed ver 1.3 and went back to the old reliable version, and it's doing the same thing. I've rebooted and reinstalled ver 1.2, and the problem won't go away. I suspect it may be a config issue with my computer, but Media Player plays just fine.
Any ideas?
Audacity won't PLAY with me.

Re: Audacity won't PLAY with me.
Have you recently plugged in any USB audio devices (like a USB Turntable)? If so, those tend to set themselves as your default audio device without telling you.
In any case, the first thing to do is check that Audacity is still set up right. Look in the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu, and make sure the recording and playback sources are set right.
The second thing to do is make sure your OS is set up. Check out the Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices program and make sure everything is right.
If that doesn't help, can you use Windows Sound Recorder to record and play files?

Re: Audacity won't PLAY with me.
I am having the same problem. I have Windows XP Home Edition and am using v. 1.3.8 (beta) of Audacity. I am able to record and export music (and play it on other sources), but when I try to play it in Audacity, the curser freezes. I need to be able to sample the music in Audacity to know where to set the tracks. Any suggestions?
