Thanks
Re: MP3 export problem
Make a note (on paper) of exactly where they are and temporarily rename them (example - lame.dll.bak)

Re: MP3 export problem
K then if Audacity works with them renamed we know whats wrong. Then what do I do with the programs that use the lame files I renamed?
Re: MP3 export problem
One at a time, rename them back to their original file name and hope nothing breaks.

Re: MP3 export problem
Ok, did all that and still nothing. Like I said in one of my first posts I'm running this on my home computer fine, I have all the same programs with lame as the computer at the church, mine works but the churches doesn't. The only thing I came come up with is that the churches computer is NOT hooked up to the internet so the Windows XP that is on it has never had any updates since the machine was built. Would that have something to do with it?
Re: MP3 export problem
I guess that's possible. I don't know if anyone has ever tested this version of Lame on anything earlier than XP SP2 ("no-one" has XP pre-SP2 ... oh, except for perhaps yousda wrote:so the Windows XP that is on it has never had any updates since the machine was built. Could you have a look to see exactly which version of XP you have there (Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties > General")

Re: MP3 export problem
Ya I downloaded both SP2, and 3 and will try that. That's probably the thing I can think of.
Re: MP3 export problem
Turns out it did have SP 2 on it. I went ahead and put SP 3 on and that made no difference. I directed Audacity to the lame encoder that I had on my jump drive and it still didn't work. I think this must be a lost cause and I will just stick with what we've been doing. Unless there is someone else out there that has any other ideas.
Thanks for the help,
Shane

Re: MP3 export problem
I'm curious why this computer refuses to play, and it would be good to find a fix, but I'm out of ideas so I've asked someone else to take a look. They will probably post within the next few days if they can think of anything not already covered.

Re: MP3 export problem
Assuming all other instances of lame_enc.dll have been removed or renamed, initialise audacity.cfg. Do this by exiting Audacity, then open audacity.cfg in a text editor and remove all the content except "NewPrefsInitialized=1" at the top: See:
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... reset_beta
Then put the lame_enc.dll 3.98.2 you got from us inside the folder where Audacity is installed (the one where audacity.exe and the Plug-Ins folder are). Don't go into Preferences browsing. If Audacity asks where LAME is when it's in the installation folder, it isn't going to work.
As a last resort, try this version of lame_enc.dll 3.97 which should work in 1.3.9:
http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=824
Note we do not recommend 3.97 because that version of LAME produces warbling distortion at bit rates below 192 kbps. But so far, Audacity will accept that 3.97 version above. It's nothing to do with the version, but something to do with how it was built.
Let us know how you get on.
