MP3 export problem

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

MP3 export problem

Post by sda » Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:08 pm

Ok, I had a preference problem, installed new Audacity per Koz, now when I try to export I go through Fileexportect. and it open the location that the mp3 encoder is located and when i hit save it says can not find MP3 library. I read most of the other posts that said read first but I'm not seeing anything that will help or maybe someone could direct me to the right solution for my problem.
Thanks,
sda

It showed you the location, but did you click on the library file? Which version of Audacity did you end up with? I can see if you got the right lame software.

I don't know that your old lame and the new one are the same. Trash the lame and pull a new one down and install that. I know they made a lame change a while ago to resolve some issues and you may have straddled that changeover.

K went out and tried it and got the same thing. This worked fine on my home PC but the one I'm trying to use it on is our churches computer. He have had a successful way of recording for awhile I just wanted to simplify the job and recording on one track and using a program that would export strait to MP3 for distribution seemed like the way to go that's why I'm trying to use Audacity.

Thanks again for the help,
sda

The current version of Lame with the current version of Audacity should work, but I remember a while ago there appeared to be a few isolated cases that needed a slightly different version - if you want to try it, it's available here: http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/lame_enc_no_manifest.zip

There must be some confusion about which version of Lame is being used, either by Audacity, the operating system, or the user.
Do a full search of your computer for ALL files called "lame" and delete or rename then, then go back to the original installation instructions for Lame and start again.

If you start with a clean slate (no other versions of lame) and follow the instructions exactly, it should work. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... stallation
