Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Audacity, Sonar and effects ?

Post by chipsngravy » Fri Oct 16, 2009 8:09 am

Hi All,
first off, apologies if this topic has been covered else where, if so post a link and i'll look it up.
The problem I'm having is as follows:
I recently installed sonar 8 producer, when I later opened audacity I noticed a lot of new cakewalk effects, in the audacity dropdown effects menu. I thought this was fantastic as I did not realise that audacity had this support structure.
However, I since had to do a complete reformat of hard drive, now, when I have come to install both programes again I cant get audacity to find these effects (it just shows the standard effects that pack with audacity) also I can not get audacity to find other plugins (LADSPA Plug-Ins for example). The versions I seem to have bother with are the 1.3.x versions.
They seem to scan for the effects and indeed load them, one can see the files listed as audacity scans for effects on loading (that is the LADSPA effects), however, they are not shown in the effects menu.
As for the cakewalk (sonar) effects it just seems to simply ignore them all together now.
Also I have learned that audacity can be integrated further with Sonar 8 as a editing tool, (which again I think is most acceptable) can anyone explain how I can do this?
I would hate to have to ditch Audacity as it is really the first intuitive piece of Audio recording software that I have come across, and it really got me going with recording sound to my PC. That said I would like to widen the effects facillities.
Thanks in advance.
Any help welcomed cheers

In the Audacity Preferences (Effects menu) there is an option to rescan for plug-ins on next restart. (I think it's in the "Effects" tab in Preferences, but I'm not on Windows at the moment). Select that option then close Audacity, then open Audacity again.
(also check that you have all of the effects types enabled in Preferences).

Thanks for that prompt reply, however, I have tried that with no success. As I say Audacity seems to find the files at start up (I can see them been listed as it loads) but they are not desplayed in the effects menu.
It's frustrating as I have seen it work before.
Thanks again tho.

Go into Preferences and on the Interface tab make sure that "Clean Speech Mode" is NOT selected.

Thanks for all your help Stevethefiddle, I have cracked it tho, it was to do with where the plugins were stored. For some reason there was a plugin folder with in the audacity plugin folder and even though audacity scanned this sub folder it would not display the effects in the menu. I cut all the effects in the sub folder and copied them in to the main plugin folder and they then all appeared on the audacity effects menu when it was reloaded.
Not sure if the above is very clear but it's sorted now and thanks for your help.
