Wave Out Mix
When I record from Wave Out Mix, like the playback from Finale, what am I capturing? Is it the original digital format from Finale's sample libraries, or has the sound card already converted that to an analog signal, which Audacity has to reconvert to digital (with some presumed loss of fidelity)? If the latter, would a higher-priced sound card reduce that loss?

Re: Wave Out Mix
It's not the same as putting a jumper cable from Line-Out to Line-In. I don't believe it goes through the analog pathways. I believe the sound is captured at the output digital buffer and reversed back into the computer.
I believe this is also the reason the quality of the sound card doesn't matter in Mix-Out. No analog. You can have a sound card and service so trashed that it drops bits, yes, but that's not likely.
