Windows 7

Does Audacity work on Windows 7? My other laptop has Windows XP and Audacity has been wonderful. My new laptop has Windows 7 and the playback is very quiet - you almost can't hear it at all. I have tried all the troubleshooting mentioned in other posts, all to no avail. It is not a problem with settings or sound card or anything else, so I'm thinking it must be the Win7? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The latest version of Audacity (1.3.9) should work with Windows 7 though there may be some issues. There's not been a great deal of testing on Windows 7 yet as it is not widely used. I suspect that the problem is with your sound system set-up rather than either Windows 7 or Audacity. What are you trying to record / playback?

Thanks for the reply. I record my husband playing guitar. I usually record them and export to an mp3 so I can share with others and listen in iTunes. I honestly think I have checked all the solutions I've seen others mention and none have helped.

So is the problem the playback level within Audacity, the playback level of the exported MP3, the recording level in Audacity... I'm not really clear what the problem is. You know that Windows 7 has independent volume levels for each program?

I seem to be having this problem since moving to Windows 7 64 bit.
It's the recording volume that is really low, i can amplify the recording but i lose quality.
BTW im recording from "stereo mix" and know about how to get it working as it's hidden normaly, i have set its volume to the highest.
