After I installed Audacity, every sound recording program i have records all sound from my computer, music on youtube, Windows noises and the mic.

At first I thought it was just audacity, and i fiddled with all the options for a while, but then i realized it was every sound program I have I dont know if audacity changed something but i tried uninstalling it and the problem remained

As far as i know I didnt change anything, I was just trying to layer some of my vocals and someone told me to try audacity

I really love audacity because of all the tools and features and how easy it is to use

but now its impossible for me to get isolated tracks with anything

If it helps im using audacity version 1.3.9 and im on windows xp

Exit Audacity, go to the system mixer, and set the recording input to your microphone (or to line-in if your mic is plugged into a mixer or pre-amplifer), not to stereo mix or similar. Also see this FAQ.

It can get changed "for you." Did you put Skype on your machine?

Never installed skype, although my pc does seem to have a virus (i get automatically redirected to weird ad sites even reputable sites)

so that may have something to do with it, but the stereo mix solution fixed my immediate problem so thank you again
