Using 1.3.9. In the online manual at http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... references , it says that "menus" (without qualification) should have keyboard shortcuts. However, when I choose "Generate" under Preferences/Keyboard/Category, instead of the usual table of shortcuts, there's blank white space and I'm unable to allocate a keystroke to anything in that menu (silence included, which is what I'm after).
Is this one of the late items that just hasn't quite made it into Audacity--why it's not 2.0 quite yet? or is there some technique I'm missing?
Thanks.
How to set keyboard shortcut for Generate - silence?

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Nope. We would all kill to have generator hot keys.

I too would really appreciate this! In fact, I joined the Audacity development team recently with the thought of adding this functionality. After spending many many hours with the source code I now understand why this has not happened yet.Ironword wrote:Using 1.3.9. Without a becoming too technical, the reason is that the items on the Generate, Analyze and Plug-ins menus are created based on (potentially) third-party tools which may or may not be installed on any given computer. The way the current keyboard shortcut binding code is written offers no method to add these tools to the preferences panel nor to give them keyboard shortcuts. I am still working on this but have gotten sidetracked.
