Programs like Renoise, ProTools, Cubase, etc., can handle inputs INDIVIDUALLY. Audacity does not. Audacity handles "mono" as a cross between both channels, it does not give one the choice to select only one of those channels. The reason why it is at half volume is that if both channels were recording at full volume and it did NOT count each channel as half-volume, it would cause distortion.

The workaround is to record in stereo, split the channel into two, delete the empty channel, and convert the left side to mono.

The actual fix is simple: Audacity needs an option to record single channels instead of automatically grouping them together.
Kizzume, I'm not sure this is going to help, but if you noticed this post, another user has a similar issue to you (low volume in mono recording in 1.3.11) which does not occur in the earlier 1.2.6 version of Audacity. Could you try 1.2.6 and see what happens when recording in mono, and whether the recording devices offered are stereo pairs?

Thanks

Do I assume you have the latest drivers?

Does the same "half-volume" issue occur in Audacity 1.3.12 and 1.2.6, or only in 1.2.6?

Haven´t checked for the updates. Thanks. But I figured out it was because Audacity records from only one channel, and it supports both, even if I set the output to mono in the USB audio device(which works on Cubase LE4). So I guess an Audacity update will do.

I think you will find the latest Audacity Beta 1.3.12 has the same issue but let us know if not. I recommend you use the Lexicon drivers. All you need to do in Audacity to avoid the issue is to record in stereo and close the surplus track if you only want to record in mono.
