How should one proceed in order to delete unwanted effects from the Effect menu ?
Many thanks

Re: Taking out effects from the Effects menu.
Effects that are above the line in the list can not be deleted as they are built into the program.
Effects that are listed below the line may be removed by deleting (or moving) the corresponding file from the Plug-ins folder which is in the Audacity program folder.

Re: Taking out effects from the Effects menu.
Can you give some details.
Exactly which version of Audacity?
What is the installation location?
Do you have more than one copy of Audacity installed?
Which effects do you want to remove?
Any other details that may be relevant?

Re: Taking out effects from the Effects menu.
Hello again ,
-Audacity v. 1.3.9 / Windows Vista Ultimate
-Audacity is installed for the 2 users of my pc ; 1 install for both profiles ( Administrator/Standard account )
- i have 3 fxs from Cakewalk i would like to get rid of i.e
1) Cakewalk: bitmeter
2) Cakewalk: Boost11
3) Cakkewalk: channels tools
These 3 won't work when i click on them ; in my administrator profile, they don't appear, but they do in my standard profile .
Notice that i have the same number of entries in my plugin directory ; why is it that these 3 undesirable fxs appear in my standard profiles but not when starting Audacity in the Administrator profile ?
Again , thanks for your help !

You can disable all VST effects from the "Effects" tab in Audacities Preferences.

Re: Taking out effects from the Effects menu.
Hello,
de-activating the VSTs worked ; the undesirable ones are not appearing anymore.
Questions ;
- As i understand it , there is no specific directory for Vst effects correct ?
- If all the added Vst fxs always appear in the " Plugins " directory , how is one supposed to recognize them if one need to delete some of them while keeping others ?
- why is it that in the " Administrator " profile the VST option is not de-activated and still the un-desirable fxs don't appear ?
- Steve, do you think i should use the 1.3.9 forum for further questionning regarding this topic ?
In any case , many thanks to you !

Re: Taking out effects from the Effects menu.
VST's can be in any of several directories.
It is normal to install Audacity effects in the Audacity Plug-ins folder, but VSTs often use other folders.
VSTs are a bit of a special case and individual selection of VST effects is difficult to implement (VST support in Audacity is still very new, so is likely to improve in later versions). For other types of effect (Ladspa and Nyquist effects) it is usually easy to recognise what each one is from its name (for example the "Vocoder" effect is called "vocoder.ny"). These types of effects will always be in the plug-ins folder, so managing them is easy.
