An Audio problem when using mp3 in both camtasia and WMM

Hi,

I'm sorry to trouble you but I have been searching all over the Internet for hours for solutions and I'm on the verge of tears and my wine is empty!

Basically what I want to do is this,

I want to put a narration to a powerpoint but I want to record my narration with audacity and then edit it in Camtasia byy bringing the slides in adropping them in the right places. I figured it would be easy and it seems to be other than whenever I play back the audio in mp3 format or wav - it's silent.

So - I tested some stuff - I tried to do the same in Windows Movie maker and the same thing happened - so I thought maybe the file was corrupt, but it played back fine in my HP media centre - so it was there.

So I did the same thing again, only this time I just recorded a few seconds of some (potty mouthed) language, saved it as both mp3 and wav and this impoted fine into both windows and camtasia. So - be a glutton for punishment - I re-recorded my longer narrative and saved in both formats - only to find the same thing happened again.#

So - after about 6 hours of too-ing and fro-ing - downloading codecs for windows and various mp3 convertery things - I am going insane - but have come to a slight conclusion :ugeek: I think it's entirly down to the length of the recordings. So... how do I get to record my narration (whic is only about 2.5 mins) and not have it just come up as blank (no wavy sounds lines or anything) when I export it into either cantasia or windows movie maker.

I really hope one of you guys can help me, I'm on a deadline for monday to get some tutorials done - I just never figured that something so simple would take up so much time.

many thanks in advance

nikki

Audacity defaults to 32-bit floating for its WAV & MP3 file production. That can cause problems. See what happens when you change the Audacity Preferences to 44100, 16-bit Stereo. Restart Audacity.

You can change your other songs to 16-bit.

Here's a piece from earlier about conversions.

Thanks very much for your help - changing it to 16bit has solved the problem :) Am now racing through the tutorials and will hopefully beat the deadline,

Nikki

I found this the first time a voice performer posted that her audition performance failed to play on a client's computer. I downloaded it and converted it from a 32-bit floating base to 16 and then reposted it. Everyone could play the work and she succeeded in getting the job.

Everybody wins.
