just fixed mine by doing the following- don't use either dll posted, use this
http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip
extract the folder, and then place the dll in the root folder. make sure the other/old copys are deleted. this did not work for me with the other two dlls but for some reason this one worked.

Thanks grim. That's the version that should normally be used as per the instructions
http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=inst ... m=lame-mp3
The version that Gale Andrews provided the links for are only if the "official" version fails.
In almost all cases the "official" version will work provided that the instructions are carefully and exactly followed.
In the few rare cases where the download and installation has been correctly done but still fails, the alternative "dll without manifest" is available.
Audacity is a fast moving project. Information given on other sites is often out of date and incorrect. Although there are still a few remaining gaps in the official documentation, the vast majority is accurate and up to date.

Although the dll in the zip "should" be the same as in the .exe installer, it isn't at the moment because Buanzo did not update it. The zip has a slightly older dll, with no manifest. It may even be best leaving the zip "as is" for now as another alternative "no manifest" dll, until we can try and produce one dll that should always be recognised.
