This is not so. "must be disabled" is not necessary if you do not use Total Recorder's user-mode driver. Moreover, you can simply reinstall Total Recorder over existing Total Recorder selecting "do not install user-mode driver".

Indead, a very strange problem. Voice of your interlocutor is low only in recording or while conversation to? Does the problem exsist if you do not use Total Recorder drivers (set in Skype's settings real sound devices to be used)?

3.x under Windows XP, 4.x under Vista (I do not use Skype often, so I do not try to update Skype frequently). But I think, there should not be problems with any versions of Skype.
