Changing sample rate (48-44.1 kHz) problems

When I change the bit rate of a recording I made @ 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV, no noticeable change occurs,
but when I change the sample rate from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz, tracks lengthen and, not surprisingly, the pitch drops.
Obviously, I'm trying to make a CD to give to friends. I did initially and found that pitch drop and the fact that all
my song breaks were now wrong when I used "export multiple."
Is there something I should be setting or adjusting?
A single track in 24-bit, 48 kHz that was 4m 25.592s became 4m 49.080s in 16-bit, 44.1 kHz.
TIA,
