Cannot save existing project using Save As...

Post by ColinWard » Sun Aug 02, 2009 3:26 pm

Hi All,

I have a new problem. I am trying to save an AUP project with a new name using Save As... It will not do it and says that the disk drive may be full or write protected (which it is not), although it creates a directory with the new name which remains empty. I can save a different project with no trouble. Anyone know what could be happening?

Thanks,

Colin

It sounds like you could be violating file naming conventions (assuming your hard drive really isn't filling up).

Upper and lower case letters, numbers, dash and underscore. That's it. Any other character in a filename will cause computer instability.

Thanks for the comment. That is not the cause however. The file name is the same as before except for one number. Seems more like an error in the aup file since the other files I tried work normally.

I've seen this happen with a damaged project. What I did to recover from it was to use "File > New" to open a new Audacity window, then copy each track into the new project and Save with a new file name. (I exported all the tracks as WAV files first - for backups - because I was worried that I might loose everything).
