Track Editing Bug 1.3.8

I was working on a new song (first one in a long time) over the weekend. The tracks are acoustic guitar recorded in stereo (2 mikes). There was a lead track and a rhythm track. I was doing some adjustments to the rhythm track, deleting small time slices to bring the chords into sync better or inserting a small section of blank track to shift things to the right. I've done this a lot with previous versions (hey I ain't perfect!).
About 2/3's of the way through the song (the total song length was about 4:30) for some reason, when I deleted a section on the rhythm track, it would do the same on the lead track, even though I only had the area on the rhythm track selected. Same for inserting, it would insert across both tracks. I tried closing the project and starting again, same thing. If I went to an earlier spot or a later spot, same thing. I tried moving the rhythm track to the first position, same thing. I had a bass track so I stuck that in between the 2 guitar tracks, it would STILL do the insert and delete on the other guitar track.
I wound up splitting the tracks and making them mono, exported them as 24 bit WAV files, then imported them back into Audacity (after closing out the project) and I was able to finish (which I would do anyways because I do my mixing in Cubase SE).
Very aggravating. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem or not. I'm running Win XP SR2, 2 gigs of RAM and lots of hard drive space (dedicated music drive). Audacity is installed on the music drive.
FWIW
