Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I absoltuly love Audacity and I use it all the time, but it's recenlty become very unstable. It works fine after a fresh boot-up, but if I go off and do other stuff my files no longer play (play bar just stays where positioned and flashes. thx much for any suggestions.

I'm a lot less interested in the software drivers than I am in how it went the last time you defragmented and error checked your hard drive. How big is it and how full is it? Is it the only hard drive on the system and how are the others connected?

There may be something hijacking the sound system when you "go off and do other stuff". For example, programs like skype can mess up your sound system settings, or even a flash plug-in in your web browser.

It may also be worth trying the DirectSound drivers.
