Background hum

Just pressing Record gives me this deep humming sound. Tried to record off the net and got both the hum and the program. Had no problem last night editing podcasts which I imported from my downloads. Solution, anyone? Thanks.

I'm betting you have too many pathways open. Windows does recursive sound pathways. The upside of that is the ability to record internet shows. The downside is instability from recording feedback pathways by accident.

I bet you have too many things running. Capturing the output of the machine which is fed from Audacity Playback which is fed from Audacity Input which is fed from the output of the machine......

......mmmmMMMMMMMMMM!

Remember everybody has a hand in this. Audacity has settings for "Playing one track while recording another." Turn that off.

Thanks, but the solution turned out to be quite simple. I'm a laptop newbie and discovered that the mike for the web camera was on. Once I got it turned off, all is well.
