BETA 1.3X DOWNLOAD ENGLISH OPTION NOT WORKING GETTING GERMAN

Upon downloading 1.3.x latest release yesterday and today I get a GERMAN VERSION ONLY when
choosing the ENGLISH version with an ok. Uninstalled in Vista and redownloaded and same thing happens.
Please correct for ENGLISH.


PS. Maybe I need to brush up my German.

The English and German versions are the same thing. You just need to reset the Audacity configuration file and it will come up in English.

Audacity Preferences are stored in a configuration file called "audacity.cfg" in the Audacity settings folder. The configuration file can be edited with any text editor. The Audacity settings folder is located at:

* Windows (except Vista) : Documents and Settings<user name>Application DataAudacity
* Windows Vista: Users<user name>AppDataRoamingAudacity
* OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/audacity
* Linux: ~/.audacity-data

You may need to enable viewing "Hidden files" to find audacity.cfg

To reset preferences to factory settings:

1. Exit Audacity
2. Open audacity.cfg in a text editor and remove all the content except the line "NewPrefsInitialized=1"
3. Save the changes to audacity.cfg and restart Audacity

I looked for the .cfg file within the audacity 1.3.x folder and not there. I do see a Language folder but nothing with .cfg as described in this install for windows. Note: I did find this file in my older install of this same version 1.3.7 but not in this newly created one. By the way, the other one is on
my vista pc. I attempting to run this in WINDOWS 7 RC. Maybe that is why i do not find this. In my vista pc, i do see language=en. Strange that
this install and download does not seem to create a audacity.cfg file. I tried copying it into audacity but that did not change the language.
Must be a newly created way for the language option being worked by someone in German.

No reply found on why German obtain to date. Only occured while using WINDOWS 7. Other Beta 1.3.x earlier downloads sometime back worked but
not recently. I can not find any sign of the .cfg file in these recent downloads. This will be the last posting on this mystery I suspect being caused
by most recent German programmer fixes.

The .cfg file is not included in the download, it is created when you run Audacity for the first time. It should default to English, but it sounds like for some reason your copy may have decided to be German, but for whatever reason, Audacity gets its language setting from the hidden file audacity.cfg

I suspect being caused
by most recent German programmer fixes.

No, official updates are always released in English, but with support for other languages if set in the audacity.cfg file.
Perhaps the file is hidden in some odd location (different from Vista). Do you require any special permissions to be able to view hidden files on Win 7?
