Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Can't find my .wav files

Post by parasearcher » Fri Jun 05, 2009 8:40 pm

I know this sounds stupid, but I can't find the .wav files I've exported. I had 1.2.6 , but had trouble, and installed 1.3.7 It installed great, and seemed to be working great. I edited and exported about 30 evp files, and now I can't find them. Did I do something wrong in set-up ? I've used 1.2.6 for a while with hardly any problems, but 1.3.7 has thrown me for a loop. Do you have to specify a certain folder for .wav files ? The new one's sure aren't with all my other .wav files. I even checked the media player library, and nothing. Someone please help ! It's probably my fault, but I can't understand what I did wrong. Thanks

<<<I had 1.2.6 , but had trouble>>>

Can you talk about that?

<<<I edited and exported about 30 evp files>>>

We try and avoid abbreviations. EVP? That's not a file type, is it? Do you have your Windows set so it does not hide file extensions? Do your files arrive during a search?

Just looking at this from thousands of miles away, I can see that 1.2.6 problem rippling through everything you do. If you didn't actually fix anything, it's still broken.

It's in a previous post, from a few days ago. Someone recommended that I download 1.3. No, it certainly didn't fix anything. In 1.2.6, every time that I clicked on a preview button, the window turned white and played the entire clip. No, no files are on my computer. EVP stands for electronic voice phenomenon. They're just small , simple .wav files, 16 bit. I thought it was working correctly, the save windows came up, and I saved as .wav. Only, nothing was saved. I'm using vista home premium, with a quad-core processor, and an added 1 TB hard drive. I have plenty of room and speed. The title of this post should be, no files saved. I save an original, and an enhanced version. My first post is in the stable version section, under,"audacity and vista problem". I used 1.2.6 for a year, with very few problems.

Just to add to my post, my computer doesn't hide file extensions. No, search does not produce anything. There are no new .wav files. You're the same one that replied to my other post. Perhaps, I should have added this post to the previous section's post. Changing the sample rate does no good at all, I've tried several different ones, and nothing helps. Sorry, that the two different posts were confusing, I was just trying to add posts to the proper place.

We need to be careful about terminology here - this is a common source of confusion so we need to be clear.
Audacity does not "save" wav files. Audacity "saves" Audacity projects. Audacity "Exports" WAV files.

What is the full path (location) that you are are Exporting the WAV file to?

<<<What is the full path (location) that you are are Exporting the WAV file to?>>>

I'd do better granularity than that.

File > Export As WAV > ...and continue on from there.
