Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Getting 1.3.7 to work

Post by benth » Thu May 21, 2009 3:00 pm

I currently have 1.3.0 (beta) loaded which as near as I can tell works fine.

I'm trying to download 1.3.7. From all indications, it seems to download properly. But will not load into an operational mode.
(i.e., when I double click on 'Audacity' application the program does not open)

I m running Windows xp w/1 gb ram.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance

Where are you downloading it from?
Does it appear to install correctly?

Thanks for your reply -----

I've tried several downloads-- My current attempt

Downloading from SourceForge.net

audacity-fullsrc-1.3.7.tar

Decompressed using WinZip

There in may be my problem. There was a copy of Audacity 1.3.7 in my list of Program Files (from which I was attempting to load). I removed that file (Audacity 1.3.7).

I've decompressed audacity-fullsrc-1.3.7.tar again, which creates a WinZip folder of 6032 files. Sorry for my ignorance, but where do I go from here?? (Not sure whether it is relevant, but I am using the 'Evaluation version' of WinZip for this particular extension.)

As near as I can tell, there is no Audacity 1.3.7 currently in 'Program Files'.

Again thanks for any help.

The "tar" file is the source code. Before you can use that it has to be "compiled" to create the executable file.

Assuming that you are using Microsoft Windows, the download that you need is obtainable by following the links here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows#recdown
For Vista it is the "Windows 2000/XP/Vista: Audacity 1.3.7 installer"
Note that the sourceforge website advertises other programs, so make sure that you get Audacity rather than one of the adverts.
