Split at silences

Hi, I'm trying to find a way of splitting mp3s which contains a number of songs. Is Detach at silences meant for this and how does it work?
The best way to split MP3s is with another free program "MP3 split" http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/
Unlike Audacity, it can split MP3s without having to decode and then re-encode them, so not only is it faster, it also requires much less disk space and the sound quality is better.
