saving vocals-'removing music'

I know the issue of removing vocals from tracks is often brought up. I would like to do the opposite.Remove as much of the music as possible from a track (mono or stereo) and keep the vocals. (The vocals in this case are all on the same mono track with the music).I've used EQ and lo and hi pass filters and end up with a peaky, 'AM' sounding track with vocals somewhat prominent but still a lot of music.Is this the best result I'll be able to end up with and is there any further steps that can be taken to refine the 'music removal' ? Thanks.

"Removing music to leave the vocals" comes up just as often.
You've probably got as good as you are going to get, but there is a long discussion about the subject here that may offer a few other things to try:

Note that "reverse centre pan removal" does not work (as explained in that topic).

No. You will be doing this with a stereo track. All the tools available make use of the separation information missing in a mono track. With mono, you're cooked.
The simple tools only work with "Stuff In The Middle." We warn people that anything in the middle gets affected. That's why the tool is known as "Center Pan Removal," not "Voice Removal." The voice goes as does the drums and bass since they were recorded in the center, too. You can't stop that.
The more advanced tools in that thread can isolate or suppress and they allow you to choose where in the stereo field the performer is located. I believe that's the software that cost money.
