How do I identify an audio file whether it has been transcoded in audacity ?
Does audacity have any options to analyse or view or investigate ?
Or any other software is required to identify transcodes.

i am using audacity 1.3.6 beta.

Thank You.

Audacity isn't a very good program for transcoding and changing formats. You can get into trouble by doing that. Much better to convert or create the clips in the format you want and then set Audacity for that format so everything matches.

On a Mac you can use iTunes Import or QuickTime Pro Export to convert music types. Regular QuickTime will tell you what you have if you open the file and Apple-I to get the INFO panel.

Windows will tell you stuff by selecting the file and File > Properties > Advanced Properties. I'm a little fuzzy there. Super and Switch will both convert between sound formats.

You're trying to get rid of copy protection, right?

No, I am not trying to rid of copy protection.
Of late, I have learned to record streaming songs in audacity.

My issue :

I have downloaded some audio files [ mp3's ].
I want to know whether they have been transcoded, example 320 Kbps to 192 Kbps.
I want to check the quality of the audio file.

Audacity always uses uncompressed audio data, so when you open or import an mp3 (or any other compressed format), Audacity will uncompress it as it imports it.

As Koz says, on Windows you can see the format properties of a file by selecting the file and File > Properties > Advanced Properties.
For more detailed information about the format, drop the file into SUPER (a free format conversion program by eroghtsoft) to load the file into SUPER, then double click on the file listing and SUPER will display a detailed analysis of the file.

my system does not met system requirements of SUPER.
However, I will do some googling for similar applications.

Neither does mine (Pentium III 500MHz, 512 MB RAM), but it works fine for most things (though it gives a warning about that when you launch the program).

If your computer is below spec. the main drawback is that some video conversions may be extremely slow or not work at all, but mostly it is still usable and very useful (strange interface though).
