1.3.6 Important recording, very scratchy and illegible.

I recorded some audio via my Samson C01U mic, on Win XP Home SP3 using Audacity 1.3.6
Same way as I've always done - only difference is that the USB port for the mic had changed.
And this is how it came out: http://www.digitaltoast.co.uk/files/scr ... sample.mp3 (short 52k sample)
Totally illegible, but from the "voice patterns", it sounded like it recorded at the wrong rate as well.
If I play the mic "live" through headphones, it sounds fine.
I promise I've googled, but can't find anything like it.
If there is ANY way I can rescue this, I would be incredibly grateful. The reason is, there's a scam going round in the UK, and I had been waiting for these people to call me, and what were the chances of them not only calling while I was in, but being next to the PC, loaded and ready to record AND stringing them along long enough to get details?
This recording is VERY important to me. Many thanks.
(BTW, I still have the original aup project files, not just the mp3 export)
