I opened a simple wave file, 1 hour long, and applied the Compressor effect to the whole.
I've done this many times with older versions of Audacity, and it takes less than 10% of real time on my machine.
But when I started this, the first time using 1.3.6, it gave a countdown of over 50 hours... this figure varied somewhat, down to 18 hours, back up to 40, as it progressed.
I was really unhappy about this, planning to abort and reinstall an older version, until it suddenly completed normally after about 3 minutes.
To reiterate: in previous versions, the predicted time was fairly accurate, in 1.3.6 it is completely wrong.

You can get program insanity if you're starting to run out of hard drive space. How big is the drive and how much free? Both numbers, please.
If you're on a Windows machine, when was the last time you defragged and error checked?

Re: Compressor effect predicted time insanely long
Thanks - it is known that there are problems with predicted times and empty progress dialogues in some effects. If you see this, just let it complete, despite the indicated time remaining, Don't cancel, as this might cause a crash.AlanHK wrote:I opened a simple wave file, 1 hour long, and applied the Compressor effect to the whole. If you are are mentioning what you think is a bug report, please do so in the Forum for your operating system (e.g. Windows) in case the problem is specific to a particular operating system. Or better, e-mail us at:
